Vic Bay Quad

The first Vic Bay Quad took place back in 1976 and is held annually and named in honour of Southern Cape surfing legend, John Pfaff. It has become one of the most prestigious surfing competitions in South Africa.

The daily route, of about 100km per day is, consists of farmlands, spectacular landscapes and amazing views. Riders can enter one of the following groups: 14 - 18kph, 18 - 22kph or 22kph and up. Accommodation throughout the race will be at 3 - 5 star guesthouses and hotels.

2021 information - The George Peak Vertical Kilometre, known as the VK Challenge, is the vertical route going up to the second-highest peak in the Outeniqua Mountains, George Peak, which stands at 1 336 metres above sea level. This is a strenuous climb, with (as the name suggests) a 1 000m vertical climb. Naturally, the views are spectacular, as with every 100 metres gained, your birds-eye view of the city of George intensifies. The idea is to encourage everyone who is able to get up the mountain. There are many prizes up for grabs, for different categories.

2022 information - The coastal route between Natures Valley and Keurbooms is hiked by many and Muddyfoot Adventures is now mapping and launching it as Plett’s newest trail run, to be called the Perle Run. The name has been chosen to bring attention to the devastating Abalone poaching that that part of the coastline has experienced recently. The paths on the trail have been used by the perlemeon poachers and law enforcement officers alike. One of the paths that will be reopened on private property will allow officials and runners a great view of the coastline to help with the enforcement of the law. The route will follow SANParks trails and then onto The Forest Hall estate until the Maatjies River where it will return to the coastline to end at the Singing Kettle Beach.

(3rd) Garden Route International Film Festival

Participating choirs have the opportunity to promote themselves on stage and in the media, attend workshops and compete in several competition categories. The competition is open to all amateur choirs, and is evaluated by experienced jury members who are all performing conductors of note.

With tracks hugging the rugged coastline and views only seen on postcards, this ride is designed for the intermediate cyclist looking for an adventure without having to spend hours training every day. The daily distances range from 40-70 kms and will traverse the mountains, plantations and coastline adjacent to the Village.

The Tsitsikamma Ultra Trail Run is a 60 km, linear trail. The trail traverses the Tsitsikamma Mountains crossing many streams and valleys. With wonderful support crew at the two aid stations and a chilled friendly vibe at the finish this is what trail running is all about. You and the mountains. In conjunction with the MTO Trails Ultra we will run a circular 23 +/- km loop from Covie. The route will include The Covie Trails, The Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail as well as MTO Plantations. Once again we have decided to include a 12/10 km and 5km fun run for those who want to be part of the whole event but haven’t quite got fit enough for the Ultra or the Lite.
Tent Pegging World Cup

Tent pegging is an ancient cavalry sport. The term "Tent Pegging" is related to the idea that the cavaliers attack enemy camps on their galloping horses, using spears or swords to uproot tent pegs which cause tents to collapse. Today Tent Pegging as a sport includes a similar imitation of the discipline in which a mounted equestrian rides the horse at the gallop gate, using a sword or lance to pick up and carry away a small ground target. The ground target is a symbolic tent peg.

The Lions Karoo to Coast route covers 100 kilometres, from Uniondale to Knysna, taking on the scenic Prince Alfred Pass and the beautiful indigenous forest roads through Kom se Pad. In total the course includes 1 560 metres of climbing. This makes it a significant test. More importantly though, it is the type of race that participants do again and again. Though the start is not particularly remote and the finish is in the heart of the Garden Route, the course itself is relatively remote. The race thus provides an excellent opportunity to ride a famous pass which one would otherwise never explore and celebrate in the heritage of the region.

Four round trips have been planned in total from Hartenbos to Groot Brakrivier station.

South Africa's oldest ocean race. The original Mossel Bay Race was first raced in 1955 with the course being from Simon’s Town to Mossel Bay. An exciting and novel addition to MBR 2022 is that it serves as a Cape to Rio qualifier. The event is co-hosted by the False Bay Yacht Club and the Mossel Bay Sailing Club. It covers 210 nautical miles, which takes an average of two days to complete, and cut-off for the last finishers is Sunday, 2 October.

The 13km Run will have the best of the first few kilometres of the Tsitsikamma Hiking Trail and then head down towards the coast and run parallel to the world renowned Otter Trail. This will be a sublime route and I am sure will be spoken about for time to come. The shorter 6,5km route will also have the best of both worlds on a smaller scale. The Covie Community will be out in force with refreshments and eats as will the Roost coffee wagon be there.

2020 information - Knysna residents and visitors are in for a treat, with the first competition of the 2020 South African waterski season taking place at Portland Manor off the Rheenendal road. South Africa's top waterski athletes will be joined by two top international water skiers, former national women's USA champion Leza Harrison from Orlando and former world for trick skiing champion Yves Saintviteaux from Belgium. On Saturday the skiers start with two rounds of slalom skiing at 9am followed by two rounds of trick skiing. On Sunday there will be two rounds of slalom. Admission to the Portland Manor is free and refreshments will be available.

Saturday's activity commences in town at 9.30am with the Street March competition followed by Massed Pipes and Drums through the centre of town/N2. From 11.00am onward the Celtic Festival continues at Loerie park featuring the following activities and events: Pipe Band Competition, Highland Dancing Championship, Scottish Country Dancing, Highland Games, Lunch time entertainment, Beer Garden and food stalls. Then from 5.00pm to 9.00pm, and probably the highlight of the festival for some, is the Sundowners Concert.

2022 information - Stage 1: Cairnbrogie Farm - Riders will experience beautiful forestry trails before moving on to magnificent sea views on cliff edges and the well known Harkerville Red Route before returning back to Cairnbrogie. Indeed a perfect balance of jeep and single track routes, that will keep riders enticed all the way. The route is magnificent, but challenging, and requires a decent level of mountain bike skill and fitness. Stage 2: Sky Villa - If you want to race this, the route is tough, and certainly not to be underestimated. The reward of these custom made flowing single tracks and the stunning views over Keurboomstrand and Plettenberg Bay certainly makes up for a tough day in the saddle.

With branches in Durban, Cape Town and the Garden Route there are over to 160 members countrywide with more than 250 Austin Healeys. The routes are expected to take participants along "roads less travelled" through Karatara Forest, Windmeulnek to Platbos and Goudveld Forest, enjoying the spectacular views of the Outeniqua Mountains along the way.
