Noetzie is a pristine, secluded beach which lies in a hidden bay bordered by the lush forest of the Sinclair Nature Reserve on one side and the fynbos landscapes of Pezula Resort Estate on the other. It owes its seclusion to the fact that it is accessed along a gravel road from Knysna’s N2 and a steep climb from the parking area down a narrow path and a flight of stairs hewn into the cliff.

Knysna Basin Project
The Knysna Basin Project is an NGO based in Knysna, South Africa, focused on coastal system research – particularly how these systems change and how communities can and should live within these systems. Our research is applied and aimed at guiding and facilitating management of our local systems, whilst developing novel conservation approaches for coastal systems in general. The Knysna Basin Project is based on four pathways: Research, Educate, Conserve and Collaborate.
The Knysna Elephants and Forests
The Knysna forest is the largest forest complex in Southern Africa, and is found in the Southern Cape and covers an area of about 60,500 ha. A tiny population of elephants scrape out a living in the forests and the surrounding fynbos. Protected in part by the Garden Route National Park, these are Africa’s most southerly elephants and South Africa’s only free-roaming population - and, as such, come with unique conservation challenges.
Knysna, back in the days
Group for anyone with memories of Knysna.
Noetzie is situated between the Indian Ocean, Sinclair Nature reserve, an indigenous forest covered river bank and a steep headland. Noetzie’s unique location, together with the fact that it is populated by a small community of long term, environmentally aware property owners, has kept the area in a very natural state. The residents of Noetzie elected to form the Noetzie Conservancy, which was registered with Cape Nature in 1999.
