Registration and the focal point of the 5-day competition will be centred on the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay. Each day of competition takes place on a new map, with a rest day on 1 January. M/W21E (Elite) category has World Ranking Events for Day 2 (middle distance) and Day 5 (sprint), with single-day entry possible on these days. Various social evenings will be included in the event programme and feature a range of entertainment and activities.

2022 information - Knysna Open Water Swim (3000m) Knysna Lagoon Mile Swim (1650m) and the Junior Swim (450m). The Junior Swim is for 10 year old’s and younger and only the first 3 girls and the first 3 boys will receive medals. Parents and other age groups may also take part but will not be eligible for medals.

This route offers the perfect opportunity for gravel-bikers to take on the 29ers. E-bikers are also welcome on this non-technical route. 7Passes MTB also offers a shorter route for younger or not so fit riders who still want to be part of the action! Leeuwenbosch Dairies will once again support the 38km event which starts from the Highlands Cash Store in the humble little village of Karatara.

5km / 12km / 18km Trail Run in the beautiful Herold Wines. Enjoy some wine tasting and a picnic under the trees after your run.

A weekend of fun sailing, sundowners, friends, great food, camping and memories. A great place to spend a weekend with great sunsets and views of the lagoon. The historic regatta goes back to 1928 and now features yacht racers from East London, Port Elizabeth, Knysna, George, Mossel Bay and Cape Town.

South Africa’s toughest extreme one-day mountain bike race. For the very brave we have the Attakwas Extreme MTB Challenge, 121km with a 2900m vertical ascent. For the not-so-faint hearted we have the Attakwas Half, 47km with a 1100m vertical ascent. This is the race to do if you want to test mind, body and machine!

2023 information - One of the most popular races on the athletics calendar, the 5 km and 10 km Nite Race will take place again. Top Gear presents it in association with Rainbow Athletics Club. The 10 km race starts at 18:00 and a few minutes later the 5 km. Great prizes can be won during the event.

Once again you will be treated to beautiful and exiting MTB & Trail Running routes around Jonkersberg near Geelhoutboom. MTB - 26km, 38km & 52km. E- Bike - 53km. Trail Run - 9km.

2023 information - It is next to the SA Biathlon Championships, the biggest biathlon event in South Africa. About 551 athletes from eight provinces will participate in this event.

The Plett Midmoo Mile is a local event for those who love swimming. Come and join us and swim or even paddle a mile. For 10 years our amoozing swimmers have donned their cow print and taken to the waters to raise funds and awareness for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.

Start at Libertas Guest Farm on the Seven Passes road. Scenic route through Swartvlei Equestrian Farm, up the infamous Rondevlei hill back to the farm. Lots of gravel but not trail.

There will also be a 5km family walk on Friday 9th. Participants in the mountain bike marathon can sign up for a 10km, 25km or 50km distance. A family day for young and old! Food stalls, guest artists, bouncy castle, face painting and much more!

Welcome to South Africa's most diverse stage race. The 2024 edition is taking on a slightly different format to the previous 10 years of the event where our riders will be starting their journey from Kurland in the Crags and ending in J-Bay. After plenty feedback from our riders over the years regarding the stages of the journey they enjoyed the most we’ve decided to spend the first 2 stages of the 2024 edition exploring the Tsitsikamma Forest. This means our riders will enjoy the comfort of the same race village for 2 nights in a row at Storms River before moving onto the 3rd at Assegaaibosch. Whether you’re a dedicated racer or a relaxed rider this is a spectacular journey you shouldn’t miss.

A wheelchair race exclusively for disabled athletes! And - every year it is getting bigger and better! The number of entries has increased dramatically, with disabled athletes and other persons in wheelchairs flocking to this annual event. The Challenge is unique as being the first and only event exclusively for the disabled in South Africa. Athletes in racing wheelchairs, adapted bicycles, hand cycles, basketball chairs and ordinary wheelchairs have made this into the premier sporting event for the disabled on the South African sporting calendar. It undoubtedly has the potential to develop into one of the best events of its kind in the world!

2023 information - Join us to watch show jumpers from around the country coming to compete at our newly built Robberg Equestrian Club. Enjoy a fun day out watching these magnificent horses. Don’t forget to bring a picnic blanket and some camp chairs - food trucks will be available for snacks and coffee.

This fast and flat marathon is a great qualifier for Two Oceans and Comrades. The scenic route takes you out along the lagoon to Leisure Isle, and then back out to the Phantom Pass Road, and finishes at Thesen Island. Many a PB has been done on this route. There are options for a 42.2km full marathon or the 21.1km half-marathon.

TransCape is an iconic South African mountain biking event taking 100 intrepid adventurers on an incredible journey across the Western Cape. It will be the best thing you do on your bike all year...! not to mention the hardcore luxury experience off the bike! TransCape offers the discerning mountain biker a unique endurance event with the perfect balance between an adventurous on-the-bike challenge and a premium off-the-bike experience. A motor vehicle rally paying homage to the various endurance rallies from a bygone era. Reimagined in the African context in what is arguably the most beautiful area on the southern tip of South Africa. This grand touring regularity rally that spans the ages from vintage, to classic to modern vehicles in five different categories creating a truly unique rally that inspires ones soul and creates the most incredible lifelong memories and friends.

A 1.6km open water swim event with the purpose of raising funds for the upgrade of facilities at the Môreson ACVV Child & Youth Care Centre. Enter as a swimmer in preparation for the next Ironman event later this year. Bring the family for a day of fun. Food Stalls available.

The KnysnaX Trail Run is a 1 day trail running event that takes place in the heart of the Garden Route, Knysna. Each event forms part of the KnysnaX Trail Series which consist of 4 events over 365 days. These events will take place during each season. Trail Running at its best. We have an exciting 6km fun run too. A fun scenic trail run for the entire family. Children are welcome to enter this fun run but must kindly be accompanied by an adult. The route has a lot of climbing, so be prepared. The routes include spectacular bridge crossings and breathtaking scenery of the Knysna Railway. A trail run you do not want to miss.

In an effort to keep all our athletes happy we are presenting a multisport event with a touch of adventure racing to spice things up. Athletes may compete as individuals or in a relay format. The route will be plotted on Google and other maps and check points will be collected. The Navigation will be simple and just spice things up a bit. Distances are approximate as you will be navigating - run 5km - ride 20km - run/kloof 2km.

Our annual SA Open Polo Competition is back again this year! A wonderful day out for anyone that wishes to watch an exciting, adrenaline-filled polo game along with drinks, food and music!

The event forms part of the Western Cape and Eden XCM Leagues.

It is the EDEN district’s opportunity to host the ALL CAPE Bowling Tournament. The ladies will compete from 7th April to 13th April. The men will compete from 14th April to 20th April. With prize money of R 100,000 up for grabs, we can be assured of the country’s top teams participation in the competition. It is anticipated that around 1200 players from across South Africa will be entering the tournament. The format of the games will ensure that competitors will rotate between clubs, which will ensure that no team will be unfairly advantaged by playing at a single venue and to allow for the challenge of playing in different conditions. There is no doubt, that if you are a bowling enthusiast, then this tournament will be well worth following.

Prizes for first, second and third places for male and female categories but mostly it’s about the bragging rights! Entries limited to 120 runners. 4x CBC beers and 4x 400 meters. Official entries for 18 years and older only but bring the kids, granny and dogs. Live music, delicious food and awesome drinks specials.

2023 information - Light tackle boat angling is a unique form of sport angling, in that it limits its rated class line to a maximum of four kilograms' breaking strength.

The 42 km race starts at the Outeniqua Park Rugby Stadion while the 21 km race kicks off at the Garden Route Dam. For those who rather want to wet their feet first before tackling longer distances, the 10 km run starts and ends at the Wilderness Commonage, which also marks the finish line for the other two races. This popular running event is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon and attracts many runners from all over every year.

The Swartberg 100, in true South African tradition, is one of the toughest Gran Fondo's in the world. We have created a course that goes back to the days of old when mountain passes were all gravel and brave cyclists climbed them on single speed bikes weighing in at 16 kg. A course that allows us to pit our modern training knowledge and technology against an old foe, a road surface that isn't always friendly. South Africa's premier gravel bike race and a qualifying event for the TREK UCI Gravel World Championships.

Classic Car Friday, catering exclusively for historic, classic and vintage cars, kicks off on Thursday at the Fan Fest where cars will be scrutineered and on public display until it closed with the very popular and entertaining parade in Waterfront Drive. The glorious cars from pre-war to 1995 will grace the hill on Friday while drivers, friends and spectators are encouraged to attend in period dress.

The first Vic Bay Quad took place back in 1976 and is held annually and named in honour of Southern Cape surfing legend, John Pfaff. It has become one of the most prestigious surfing competitions in South Africa.

The 2024 running of the Simola Hillclimb will be the fourteenth edition of what has become South Africa’s premier motorsport lifestyle event with a growing international footprint. Saturday and Sunday’s action has been dubbed the King of the Hill Shootout and is where the country’s fastest machinery will duel it out on the Simola hill. Fans will witness some of the country’s meanest, sleekest, prettiest and most spectacular cars taking to the track during the weekend.

The Mountain Ultra Trail or MUT by UTMB is a festival of trail running. The Outeniqua Mountains rise from the urban edge and provide a spectacular adventure seeker’s playground, with hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails criss-crossing the peaks, which reach up to 1,578 meters above sea level, and verdant valleys. Fynbos, one of the world’s most biodiverse floral kingdoms, and old growth indigenous forests line the trails, while the high points along the MUT by UTMB route provide breath-taking views over the Indian Ocean to the south and across the arid Karoo to the north.

This is South Africa’s ultimate race with 361km and a maximum of 36.1 hours to complete it. While this race remains a mountain bike race in our opinion, participants now have the flexibility to take it on with a gravel- or mountain bike, so choose wisely! If you are not up for the full Challenge you can take on The Half or opt for The Relay in a team of 4.

2023 information - Victoria Bay will play host to South Africa's top junior surfing competitiors. The 2023 VIC BAY REEF JUNIOR PRO is part of the SAST and is open to SSA members in the U12, U14, U16 & U18 Girls & Boys divisions.

The Knysna Forest Marathon features many unique highlights that cannot be found in any other trail run in the world. True to its name, most of the route runs deep into the Knysna Forest with breathtaking views over the estuary and even the iconic Knysna Heads, a great distraction to get you through those last few kilometers.

This trail run offers 3 routes of varying lengths and difficulty. Taking runners through the forests made famous by Daleen Mathee (the late authoress of Circles in the forest, Fiela’s child, Moerbeibos and others). The 15km and 27km routes have been chosen not only to challenge the intermediate to experienced trail runners but to provide them with an opportunity to experience the deepest secrets at the heart of the Garden Route National park. Single track and terrain to excite trail runners of all ability including an easier route for the beginner trail runner of 9km.

Cape Country Unplugged (CCU) is a laid-back, untimed, 6-day, 500km Mountainbike Tour. The CCU offers full en route support and includes 3-4 star accommodation, 3 meals a day, luggage transport, medical support and well stocked waterpoints. Also included is free beer and wine, as well as regular slide shows by professional photographers. he Tour is suitable for mountain-, gravel- and e-bikes. The route mainly follows quiet, lesser known gravel and farm backroads. The Tour provides for a Full distance as well as a Light option.

The KnysnaX Trail Run is a 1 day trail running event. Each event forms part of the KnysnaX Trail Series which consist of 4 events over 365 days. These events will take place during each season. Trail Running at its best. Another new route added for the Winter Run at the KnysnaX Trail Series. All our routes will follow some amazing railway sections, forest and scenes of the Goukamma river, Knysna Lagoon and more. We are very excited to announce the 6km fun run too. A fun scenic trail run for the entire family. Children are welcome to enter this fun run but must kindly be accompanied by an adult.The routes include spectacular bridge crossings and breathtaking scenery all along the Knysna Railway. A trail run you do not want to miss.

Choose between a 85, 45 or 30 km loop, and embrace invigorating climbs and thrilling descents. Conquer gravel roads and navigate jeep tracks in this magical and captivating natural landscape.

100 km Ride: Knysna to Wilderness - Up the Serpentine Climb as in 1987 - Try the challenge again this year. 50 km Ride: Knysna to Sedgefield and back - Undulating ride for the beginner and wannabes.

The T2S (Tower2Sea) is the DOWN-RUN route of the SEA2TOWER. The T2S starts at the top of the Knysna Forest at the Buffeslnek Fire Tower and finishes on Thesen Island in Knysna. There are 4 routes to choose from, offers a variety of distances that cater for most fitness levels. It is a very challenging yet beautiful route with epic views where runners will start at the Buffelsnek Fire tower and wind their way down through the Knysna forest, before finishing at Sea-Level on Thesen Island. Runners can expect spectacular views over the surrounding forest and mountains and lush trails through the Knysna forest.​

Herold Primary is having a Fundraiser to help keep their little school’s doors open. This is a brand new event, and was planned to included a 21km on Montagu Pass, but due to the recent floods, the pass is not safe lower down, to get the distance for the 21km. We have decided to continue with the event, but only have a 5km and a 10km run, followed by tons of fun for the whole family!

2021 information - Eight teams from across South Africa will take part in the event. Surfers will compete in seven divisions, ranging in age groups from over 35s to over 60s. But don't be mistaken - these surfers are not on the downward slope of their surfing careers. With decades of competitive surfing under their wetsuits, these guys are more serious than ever.

The SOX Trail Run is known as the most diverse 3-day trail run in South Africa and takes place in the Garden Route, with 90% of the route laid out within the South Africa National Park’s protected property. You will run on pristine hiking trails in the mountain on day one, experience the tranquillity of our lush, indigenous forest on day two and end off, with day three, along the stunning coastline of the Garden Route.

The beautiful and untouched gem of the Garden Route will host riders on this 3-day mountain bike stage ride. With tracks hugging the rugged coastline and views only seen on postcards, this ride is designed for the intermediate cyclist looking for an adventure without having to spend hours training every day. The daily distances range from 40-70 kms and will traverse the mountains, plantations and coastline adjacent to the Village.

2023 information - There will be a 3km Fun Run, 10km Run and 10km Walk on offer this year. We will be back in 2024 in our usual March slot with the 30km, 21km trail and 10km run and walk.

From the sandy beaches of the Indian Ocean to the lush forests of the South Africa Garden route, there’s always something to enjoy, and the surroundings change as you progress kilometer after kilometer. This bikepacking gravel event spans 500 km and is 7000 meters in elevation. It will test your physical endurance and mental fortitude. t will leave you inspired, invigorated, and changed forever!

The South African Sasol Solar Challenge is a biennial competition that strives to be the ultimate test of technology and innovation. Local and international teams conceptualise, design and build solar-powered vehicles to drive across South Africa in an eight-day event while competing against each other, demonstrating and showcasing their design, manufacturing, and strategy skills. The challenge travels from Johannesburg to Cape Town via Jeffreys Bay, with the ultimate winner being the team that has managed to clock the most kilometres on their solar car.

Contrary to the name the Dr Evil Experience is aimed at normal FUN riders as well as hardcore athletes. The three days will ALL be under 70 kilometers in distance. Leon Evans has created routes that are interesting, scenic and will test those who set out with the intention of racing the event. Each stage of the three-day event promises a unique view of Plettenberg Bay & surrounds.

The Lions Karoo to Coast route covers 100 kilometres, from Uniondale to Knysna, taking on the scenic Prince Alfred Pass and the beautiful indigenous forest roads through Kom se Pad. In total the course includes 1 560 metres of climbing. This makes it a significant test. More importantly though, it is the type of race that participants do again and again. Though the start is not particularly remote and the finish is in the heart of the Garden Route, the course itself is relatively remote. The race thus provides an excellent opportunity to ride a famous pass which one would otherwise never explore and celebrate in the heritage of the region.

The "Race With Soul" 2024 sees the rebirth of the Cape Pioneer, now boasting a shorter name and route, but undoubtedly the individual stages will be as challenging as they are rewarding! Over the past 15 years, we’ve explored the Karoo and Coast, journeying from Prince Albert to Riversdale, and from Calitzdorp to Mossel Bay. We’ve crossed rivers, conquered vast mountain ranges, faced natural disasters, and triumphed over pandemics. This expedition has led us to unveil our best route yet - 2024 promises a challenging, diverse, scenic, and ultimately rewarding experience along the Karoo and Garden Route.

The Grail of Trail™. The Otter African Trail event takes place annually and runs in the opposite direction each year. The Otter Edition traverses East to West starting in Storms River and finishing in Natures Valley. With the Retto Edition Running West to East, from Natures Valley to Storms River. The Klein Karoo Dust 4 Glory Challenge is the only obstacle course challenge in the Garden Route and Klein Karoo region. It will be a weekend of fun and adventure for families, friends, corporate colleagues or scholars. Participants can enter individually or as part of a team (although team members start together, they do not need to finish together). Just bring your running shoes and have a great time.

Prince George is the most diverse one-day race you’ll ever experience. Cycle the Klein Karoo, Great Karoo & Garden Route all in one day! Covering 2 mountain passes, 3 geographical areas, and a world heritage site! The vast landscapes and diverse overload of this non-technical routes are the perfect race for all mountain and gravel bike enthusiasts, with ample opportunity to appreciate the unique surroundings you’ll be exposed to.

The Dryland Traverse is a race like no other! The four-day stage race, which showcases the classic trails of the Klein Karoo, has fast become a favourite on the South African running scene. It kicks off with an underground start in the world-famous Cango Caves (this is the only event that has permission to take runners through this area). The stages ahead include traversing the mighty Swartberg Mountains - a UNESCO World Heritage Site, breathtaking views of the Great and Klein Karoo, and trails that run past the renowned Raubenheimer Dam. There simply is no equal when it comes to the sense of achievement, setting and overall spirit of this event - the Rhodes Dryland Traverse is a must for every adventure-seeker!

The Knysna Extreme is an extreme triathlon and Africa's Toughest triathlon! If you are passionate about challenging yourself, pushing your limits, experiencing unique and varied scenery and being part of an incredible group of athletes, then join us for an unforgettable triathlon! It is a challenging Point-To-Point, self-supported race that takes place along South Africa’s scenic Garden Route. The course starts with a 5 km swim in the Knysna Estuary, followed by a 174 km cycle through coastal, mountain and semi-desert scenery. That is then finished by a 50 km run through plantations and the Knysna forest. It is a grueling, yet scenic route that takes triathletes back to the purest form of the sport.

Starting at the Knysna Waterfront, this popular race heads out along the red brick road to George Rex Drive, and takes you up to the highest point on the East Heads. You don’t get better views than this! Trust us, the hill will be worth it when you get to the top! If you don’t fancy the 21km, there are also options for a fast and flat 10km, plus a 5km fun run. A race for the whole family!

2023 information - Tsitsikamma and its abundance of great mountain biking through the MTO forests, SANParks wilderness and numerous private farms will position the Red Cherry Forest Boogie as one single-stage race not to miss. 2023 will see the inclusion of 3 Trail Run routes, namely Bronze (5km), Silver (13km) and Gold 21km. With 4 routes from 10km to 60km the Boogie will appeal to the whole family and E-Bikes are very welcome.

IRONMAN 70.3® races consist of a 1.2 mile/1.9 kilometer swim, a 56-mile/90 kilometer bike and a 13.1 mile/21.1 kilometer run. You can almost taste it. Your IRONMAN 70.3 finish line beckons, with its crowds, bright lights, and music. A sense of accomplishment is like the wind at your back, pushing you forward over the final steps. Explore the back roads and hilltops of the untamed Garden Route... The planned route runs from Redberry Farm, along the Outeniqua Mountains, mostly on district gravel roads, here and there moving to Jeep tracks, through Herbertsdale until reaching the finish line at Jakkalsvlei Wine Cellars.

Kicking off in 2019 as a rugby only festival, the event has now evolved to include Men’s and Women’s Rugby, Golf, Womens & Mixed Netball, Touchies and for the 2023 edition, we’re adding a Colour Run, Dodgeball, Fishing, Clay Court- and Padel Tennis! The George TENS will not only feature top notch sporting activities, but the Festival Village will be rocking. This year, local and emerging artists are invited to showcase their talents on the Festival Stage.

Brand new trail run in the Karatara area, between Sedgefield and Knysna. Hosted by Garden Route Trail Park and Sedgefield Cycleworx, the routes will take you through lush forest single track as well as stunning fynbos.
